I find that the 1130pm blog updates are seem to be the most entertaining since I’m half asleep and exhausted. It’s nice that I can do them from my phone but the downside is that I ramble a bit too much. Things have been going pretty smoothly and we’ve picked up a couple of new recruits. I’ll talk about them in a bit. So now for the fun stuff. Let start off by saying that the Haiti diet is the best way to lose weight. Between the flop sweating, mass consumption of water and overall repetitive diet I have lost almost 65 pounds since my first trip here. Jenny Craig ain’t got nothin' on Haiti. The bad … [Read more...]
The Calm Before The Storm Is Over

MMRC Haiti Update 22Jul2010 As hard as I try to update this blog daily it looks like it’s been weekly. Time flies so fast here and it’s hard to keep track of the days. We are trying to get internet at the house so we don’t have to go off site to get online but until that happens we depend on a temperamental internet connection. Up until Sunday it had been pretty slow by MMRC-Haiti standards. It’s kind of like the calm before the storm though. We picked up a new ID doc named Rachel who is working on Megan Coffee’s TB patients while she is gone. Tom and Alan took off earlier this week but … [Read more...]
Big Paul: Pin Cushion In Haiti

MMRC Haiti Update 20JUL2010 I’ve received quite a few hints/suggestions that I update my blog since it has been a while. I just want to preface this blog entry by saying that it is 11:30pm and I’m laying on my bed-o-pallet/mattress and it has been a long day. I’m posting this entry from my blackberry so please forgive the typos and rambling you are about to experience. With that being said here goes nothing: Over the last 2 weeks we have accomplished a tremendous amount of work thanks to some killer people that have been helping us. Heather Walsh (aka: “Crazy Brooklyn Broad”) was with us for two … [Read more...]

We Should Be So Grateful..

MMRC Update Haiti 04Jul2010 We Should Be So Grateful For Everything We Have This July 4th Happy 4th of July everyone. It’s a day like this that I am so grateful to be a member of the USA. I am so thankful to know that someday I will return home and enjoy the liberties that our forefathers died to give us. Now I know the USA isn’t perfect but man it sure is the land of milk and honey where you can do something with your life. I hear so many people complaining and whining about how hard it is back home. How the housing industry took a dump and they lost so much money. How in AZ it’s … [Read more...]
MMRC Update 26JUN2010
Supplies In Haiti As I look back on my life and think about how I used to spend a Saturday night, it amazes me at how much I’ve changed. It’s 11:15 p.m. I’ve been trying to sleep for an hour and a half with no luck. Maybe it’s the coke I drank. Who knows? What I’m getting at is that my life has changed dramatically since i’ve been here. the things that mattered so much to me before are trivial and pathetic in comparison to what is happening now. I used to care so much about the clubs, the parties, the social scene and now it’s how can I help save the lives of these poor people who have been … [Read more...]
Another Needless Death In Haiti

MMRC Haiti Update 15JUN2010 It is the afternoon of the 15th and I’ve finally had a chance to sit down and collect my thoughts over what has happened over the last few days. The break that we took was so very needed for us to keep our health and our sanity. LP and the guys had done the Medishare move in a record breaking 4.5 days. I’ve never been so proud to say that I am part of this team. The guys we had working for us were amazing and I’ve never seen anyone work so hard to accomplish a goal. As a lot of you know I’ve been getting pretty sick lately with respiratory infections and I was shot both … [Read more...]

Moving Project Medishare And Saving A 16 Year Old Boy's Life Wow!!!! It’s been a whirlwind of a week. Since my last post we’ve moved an entire hospital in 5 days, got a kid out to the DR for a bur hole procedure, saved a little girl’s life by getting her the Rabies IG, and in the end, hopped on a plane for a 48 hour break in Boca Chica. I’ve received so many emails from everyone reading this blog telling me to make sure we take a break or we will either burn out or get sick. We’ll both of those were about to happen and I’m glad to say that we caught it in time. It has been 4 straight … [Read more...]
MMRC Update 02JUN2010
Bribing Cops, Daily Rains, And A Food Riot in PAP, Haiti Last night was quite the night. Aside from the ongoing heat and overwhelming humidity I had the chance to see first hand what it takes to get out of a ticket. We had one of our guys run Marjorie and Patricia home last night and on the way back he got stopped at a checkpoint about 6 blocks from the house. The driver did not have a license and apparently that’s a big deal in PAP even though you can buy one for $150 USD and nobody here obeys any type of laws, speed limits, or general courtesies. Back to last night, he got stopped at the checkpoint … [Read more...]
